PARKnSHOP is committed to reducing food waste, and has stringent internal procedures to reduce waste at source. We strive to forecast demand precisely, and conduct end-of-day and close-to-expiry clearance sales to reduce waste in ways that benefit customers.
Since 2012, PARKnSHOP has pioneered among Hong Kong supermarkets to donate edible surplus food. Since then, we have donated more than 1,800 tonnes of food which has helped Food Angel make more than 5 million hot meal boxes and 600,000 food packs to feed the needy. Currently, around 150 stores and the Sheung Shui Food Distribution Centre are donating vegetables, fruit, bread, meat and packaged food to Food Angel.
PARKnSHOP also supports various non-edible foods recycling programmes launched by the government or various organisations. At some stores, we donate non-edible food items for recycling into animal feed or fertilizer.
PARKnSHOP volunteers have also helped prepare meal boxes at Food Angel's central kitchen and have distributed them to elderly people in their homes, providing not only hot meals but also companionship and care.
