Free-range eggs are laid by hens who have access to an outdoor hen yard in all weathers. The hen yard is covered with grass and vegetation. Inside the henhouse, at least one-third is covered with straw, shavings or turf, so that the hens can scratch and keep themselves clean with dust baths.
