The Nishi Shuzo Shochu Brewery was established in 1845 in Kagoshima Prefecture, the birthplace of distillation in Japan. Their Shochus are renowned in Japan and found in most Izakayas throughout the country.
The current president of the company, 8th generation of the Nishi family, introduced a deep turn of the production processing the last decades. Breaking from the common practice of buying sweet potatoes and rice, the raw materials needed for producing Shochu, he worked hard to build a network of local producers. As they work only for the company, they strive to grow and provide the best, Kagoshima-produced, ingredients tailor-made to produce the best Shochu. This unique feature gives them control of the distillation process from farm to pot and enables them to experience different styles of sweet potatoes and rice.
Building on this 170 years experience of distillation and with the same will to offer local spirits deeply rooted in their region they started producing Tsukusu Craft Gin in 2018. The spirit is made using the famous Houmei water from surrounding mountains. After a first distillation of low-alcohol Shochu base with 13 botanicals and a second distillation with high-alcohol Sochu and 11 botanicals, the spirit is put to rest in a tank for 30 days, where a layer of volcanic rock slowly radiates far infrared rays to make the spirit smoother.

Juniper berries, Yuzu, Kabosu, Sudachi, Shekwasar, Meyer lemon, Angelica root, Lemon peel, Mint, Coriander seed, Liquorice, Cinnamon and Chinese cassia
